Wacky-kiki: The Queen of America!
This installation was about the wacky, tackiness of Waikiki and how paradise is sold to the public. Many of the things sold as Hawaiian do not exist in Hawaii, such as the Macaw parrot and the hula dancer is often projected in eroticism.
As part of this installation made from the excess of inflatables, I walked around on July 4th in patriotic drag and took pictures with the locals picnicking in their holiday attire. Their aloha spirit overwhelmed me and overpowered the commerciality of their island.
